Starting a new company is exciting. And especially when we are young. It seems like the whole world is ours. It kind of is.
However, as time passes by, we get worn out. Most of us do. No matter how enthusiastic we were in the beginning.
Doing the same exact thing over and over again can do that to a person.
Most of us have heard that proverb – do something you love, and you won’t have to work a day in your life. It sounds very deep.
However, it isn’t really realistic.
Keeping up with the industry trends isn’t always simple or easy.
Doing something over and over again, over the course of years can easily start feeling more like a prison and somebody else’s life than our “hobby”. A job we love.
And that is precisely where things tend to take the wrong turn. At that exact moment. When we take our eye off of the prize. When we get sloppy.
Most people return to their primary state of euphoria once they come back from holidays, spend some time with their friends and family, or even enjoy some silence.
But, the bad news is that the world doesn’t stop spinning. Not when we need it the most. Never. It keeps pushing forward. And that is something your competitors know.
It doesn’t have to be you who is tired of working. It can be your CEO. Manager in charge. Or a simple worker that is tired of doing things that seem like they aren’t leading him or her anywhere.
Everything is possible. And the bigger the company, the greater the risk. Something your competitors will use against you without showing any mercy.
And if we are being honest, you would do the same thing to your competitor. It is about the profit, nobody is really thinking about the human factor in the company on the other side of the story.
But, people do matter. And keeping up with everyday tasks isn’t easy.
In today’s article, we will talk about ways to prevent people from getting bored with their jobs and bad results that come with it. Yes. It is about SEO again, but this time – from a whole other perspective.
SEO is something that takes time
And effort. A lot of it.
However, getting things done on a daily basis can get dull.
There is just no better word to describe it. It can easily drain your energy. Tables, statistics, analytics. It is just the way SEO functions.
And things rarely change.
Once you set up your strategy, that’s it. That is, if you made a good one. And in most cases, SEO strategies need small (or some times bigger) fixes, everything else goes just as planned.
And that is precisely what makes people so tired. Doing the same thing over and over again.
You already know it – this practice can only lead to problems. You need somebody who is energetic, happy to follow trends, read news and Google updates. Somebody enthusiastic. And that person can’t exist without some stimulus.
It is time for you to sit down and make a plan that will help your SEO team become better.
Here is what you can do:
- Change the routine
- Mix the teams
- Mix the clients
- Set new goals and targets
- Help your employees educate themselves
Change the routine
This one sounds quite easy. But, is it? Is it really?
No. SEO means routine. Keeping up the good work is at the core of doing anything SEO related.
But, you can always make some changes that will make your employees wake up. And it doesn’t really matter if you are an owner of a digital marketing agency, or have an in-house SEO team. The job that gets done is pretty much the same.
Help your team, and they will help you. It is just the way things work.
What can be done in order to change the routine?
- Let your employees work remotely from time to time. Working from a different space helps with creativity and will boost your employees’ enthusiasm. Trust me on this one.
- Cut the meetings. Meetings are fun in the beginning. And after some time, they tend to blend. They are all the same, and especially if you are not in charge. So – cut them. Short or completely. Skip a weekly meeting and make the next week’s one shorter. Try to include people. Make them feel a part of the team. Valued and appreciated.
- Let your employees go out for a meeting. Yes. Meeting over a coffee is much more fun than the usual one. Once again, a change of scenery can do wonders for your SEO team.
- Add some décor into your office space. Colour helps with creativity and will breathe some new life into space. As well as your employees.
Mix the teams
As we have mentioned before, doing the same thing over and over again can take its toll on people.
However, letting your employees handle tasks that they have never handled before – it will make them think.
And yes, it will be hard for them at first. But, the end result is something that will help your team.
Either they will love the challenge and it will make them want to work even harder in order to become better, or it will make them love their usual job more than ever before.
It all depends on the type of person we are talking about, however, whichever way it goes – your business will benefit.
Mix the clients
Working on the same job for a while will help your employees gain new insights, obtain new skills and see the whole picture much clearer.
However, working on the same accounts, communicating with the same people over and over again, as well as keeping up with the usual tasks every day – well, it might have a negative effect on your team.
That is why switching the clients between team members can be a good idea.
It won’t be a huge challenge as switching the team, but it will make your employees think harder.
Even more importantly, it will make them come out of their comfort zone. And we all know how important that one can be.
Set new goals and targets
SEO is all about reaching new goals. New clients. Boosting the user experience. Analysing. Finding the best tactic.
And the good news is – all these things can be measured. And that precise data is something that can wake up your employees and boost the team’s effort.
Make a plan, discuss it with your team and make sure everybody participates. Every single person matters, and even more importantly – it should be how your employees feel.
Setting new goals and reaching new targets helps with that. A lot.
Everybody must work toward the common goal, and reaching it – it will just add to your employees’ enthusiasm. It will empower them to try harder, acquire new skills and just work like never before.
Help your employees educate themselves
Educating yourself on a daily basis is at the core of SEO.
That is why it is so important to try our hardest to keep up with everything that is happening in the SEO world.
Webinars, podcasts, news, blogs, industry expert’s insights, communication with other firms – all these things can help your employees (and you) to educate yourself.
That is if you are trying to stay on top of your game. And you should.
Make learning new things fun and simple for your team.
On the other hand, learning new things isn’t always fun. It requires your complete devotion. Time and energy. That is why most employees don’t try hard enough.
But, you can help it.
Create a knowledge base, or pay for seminars. Your team will appreciate the travel.
Knowledgebase (it can be a simple Google drive with some updates, tutorials or industry insights) will save your employees’ time, and make it easy to acquire new ideas and skills.
When it comes to SEO training, there is only a handful of people who are happy to pay for them. Let’s keep it real, most companies pay for their employees, and yours will expect the same.
But, even though it can be costly, it will show your team that you care and that you believe in them. Investing in their knowledge will pay off in more than one way.
They will know more, and by that become better SEO experts. And, they will feel valued which will motivate them to keep up the hard work.
Also, a trip to another city for a seminar – well, it will refresh them and give them some time to relax.
Exploring new SEO strategies
Setting a strategy for a new client and following up on a previously agreed set of rules is pretty common in the SEO industry. We all do it.
And these strategies rarely get changed. Yes, there might be a small fix here and there, however, a once set strategy is something that almost never changes. Not at its core. And that is fine.
SEO strategies take time, and even though you might not get the result you wanted from the very beginning, it will probably happen in the near future.
Brainstorming and SEO go very well together.
On the other hand, SEO is changing. Rapidly. And staying in the loop is harder than it seems from the outside.
You should always push forward and try new things. Collect data and explore your options. Try a different approach.
And remember, like everything else related to SEO – give it time.
SEO Tools – use the right ones
SEO means using many different tools at once. Google Analytics, Google Search Console and similar tools are helpful, however, in order to achieve better results, you will have to consider using some additional ones.
They will provide you with that much-needed insight.
Also, remember that the best tools available on the market aren’t the free ones, and you will have to invest some money.
Playing it smart and using every tool until reaching its full potential will definitely pay off, so yes – give it a try.
Hire SEO consultants
Why? The answer is pretty simple actually. It will help you change your point of view.
Making new strategies over and over again isn’t as simple as one might think. And hiring an SEO consultant to work by your side (or your team’s) will provide you with some new ideas, fresh insight and push you forward.
Maybe there is something that you are doing wrong or something that you are missing. A consultant can help you decide what needs to be fixed and what is perfect the way it is.
Just give it a thought, I’m sure you will come to the same conclusion I did.
Hiring a consultant might be that one thing that made the biggest difference. You can never really know, but you can always give it a try.
In the end, all that is left to say and the best advice I can provide you with is – keep things fresh.
Your employees need to be enthusiastic and happy to work for you. A happy team is the best team.
And once you provide them with all the tools and information they need, all that is left for you to do is to help keep the spirits up.
Don’t allow things to get boring or hard to handle. Create a challenge and help your team overcome it.
