What would your business be like with 229.45% more organic search traffic?

You would see hockey stick revenue growth unless your website is facing some serious conversion issues.

In this case study, I’m going to show you how I grew a client’s organic search traffic by 229.45%.

Let’s jump in.

Brief Background

I will give you as much detail as possible without revealing the client’s website (NDA in place).

Here are some quick facts about the company:

  • The client hired me (December 2015) to improve their SEO performance.
  • Business is based in East London and is also covering the surrounding areas in Surrey, Essex και Kent (total population appr. 12.6 million).
  • Their business is between 1-5 employees (some jobs are also outsourced).
  • They had no active blog and were not promoting their business on social media.
  • They had done some SEO in the past that resulted in a Panda penalty on May 2014 (see image below).

My SEO Strategy / Approach

I usually use two different strategies with my clients:

1. A content driven strategy where I create content that attract backlinks and then promote this content so that it actually gets backlinks and…

2. A non-content driven strategy that focuses mainly on on-page optimisation tasks (works better for smaller businesses or local businesses with smaller budgets).

For this client I mainly used the second strategy. Here are the tactics involved with this strategy:

  • Panda penalty recovery – got rid of all the thin content. Create pages with unique and quality content for all the services offered. Eliminate the duplicated content and use canonical tags were needed.
  • Page load speed optimisation.
  • Fixed all issues found within the technical SEO audit (404 error pages correction etc)
  • Find keyword ideas, analyse the competitors and optimize the target page(s) for those keywords. Assess all the available data gathered on Google Search Console, Analytics and various third party tools / platforms.
  • Improved all meta data (meta titles, descriptions, heading tags κοκ).
  • Prospect for link opportunities, secured some “easy” backlinks and continue acquiring relevant backlinks until the client ranked.
  • Site architecture improved and all URLs were restructured (old URLs were 301ed to the new ones). Massive improvements in internal linking with keyword rich anchors.
  • Removal of various distracting elements (eg sidebar) and implementation of new and results-driven CTAs. The ugly, oudated and confusing design was improved.
  • Blog set up – 1 new blog post published every week.
  • AMP setup for all blog posts.
  • Improvements on all social networks (Facebook, Twitter & Instagram).
  • SSL certificate installation.

The SEO Results

After 12 months of work, I managed to increase their organic search traffic by 229.45%.

There are basically 2 conclusions you can draw from this growth pattern:

  1. Growing organic search traffic takes a long time.
  2. If you quit early, you will never see the fruits of your labour.

SEO agencies / freelancers / professionals and businesses who hire them, must both understand that SEO is NOT a quick fix.

For most campaigns, it takes 6, 8, 12, or even 15 months to see growth. But once started the organic traffic generated is of the highest quality with high conversion rate and big ROI.

As you can see in the image below, the MoM organic traffic increase in now more than 15-17%.

Conclusion

It’s not always easy to grow organic search traffic when working with clients and, on top of that, more often than not, traffic is NOT the problem.

The reason why businesses stagnate when they have more traffic is because of a weak sales funnel. So…

In this case study, I’m going to show you how I grew a client’s organic search traffic by 1313.33% in 12 months (January 2016 – January 2017).

Let’s jump in.

Brief Background

Here are some quick facts about the company:

  • The client (Skip Hire Company) hired me (January 2016) to improve their SEO performance.
  • Business is based in Billericay covering the surrounding areas in Essex and East London (total population appr. 1 million).
  • Their business is between 1-5 employees.

1. A content driven strategy where I create content that attract backlinks and then promote this content so that it actually gets backlinks and…

2. A non-content driven strategy that focuses mainly on on-page optimisation tasks (works best for smaller businesses or local businesses with smaller budgets).

For this client we mainly used the second strategy. Here are the tactics involved with this strategy:

  • I converted the old PHP website into a modern and mobile-friendly WordPress installation.
  • Page load speed optimisation.
  • Fixed all issues found within the technical SEO audit (404 error pages correction etc)
  • Find keyword ideas, analyze the competitors and optimize the target page(s) for those keywords. Assess all the available data gathered on Google Search Console, Analytics and various third party tools / platforms.

  • AMP setup for blog posts.
  • Improvements on all social networks (Facebook, Twitter & Instagram).
  • Clear and results-driven CTAs design and implementation.
  • SSL certificate installation.

As a result, client was more than happy to pause his investment on Google AdWords and focus solely on the sustainable organic growth through SEO.

How would you feel if your brand new website increased its organic search visibility by 1120.91% and its domain authority by 12 dominating your niche in exactly 6 months?

In this case study, I’m going to show you how I did that within 6 months (November 2016 – May 2017) from website launch.

Let’s jump in.

Brief Background

I will give you as many details as possible without revealing the client’s website (NDA in place).

Here are some quick facts about the company:

  • The client (Brickwork / Tiling) hired me (November 2016) to improve their SEO performance.
  • Business is based in Rawreth, Essex covering the whole of South East (London included).
  • Their business is between 1-5 employees.
  • It was a 5-page / brochure website (homepage, 1 service page, about, gallery, contact).
  • As mentioned above, the website had just been launched, so no previous marketing activities had ever taken place.

My SEO Strategy / Approach

I usually use two different strategies with my clients:

1. A content driven strategy where I create content that attracts backlinks and then promote this content so that it actually gets backlinks and…

2. A non-content driven strategy that focuses mainly on on-page optimisation tasks (works best for smaller businesses or local businesses with smaller budgets).

For this client I had to equally use both strategies as it was a new website. Here are the tasks involved:

  • Website was built on PHP so I had to add a blog section in WordPress (new installation) to support my blogging activities.
  • Page load speed optimisation.
  • Fixed a few issues found within the technical SEO audit (nothing major here as it was a brand new site).
  • Found keyword ideas, analyse the competitors, created one page per service offered and optimised these pages for the specific chosen keywords. On going assessment of all the available data from Google Search Console, Analytics and various third party tools / platforms.
  • Improved all meta data (meta titles, descriptions, heading tags κοκ).
  • Prospect for link opportunities, secured some “easy” backlinks and continue acquiring relevant backlinks until the client started to see the first positive results / good rankings.
  • Effective internal linking with keyword rich anchors for smooth link juice flow.
  • Removal of various distracting elements (eg sidebar) and implementation of new and results-driven CTAs.
  • Blog set up – 2 new posts published monthly.
  • AMP setup for blog posts.
  • Social media accounts setup (Facebook, Twitter & Instagram) & optimisation.
  • SSL certificate installation.

The SEO Results

After the first 6 months of work, I managed to increase their organic search visibility by 1120,91% (no comparison with previous time period is possible as it was a new website launched in November 2016).

There are basically 2 conclusions you can draw from this growth pattern:

  1. Growing organic search traffic takes time.
  2. If you quit early, you will never see the fruits of your labour.

For most campaigns, it takes 6, 8, 12, or even 15 months to see growth. But once started the organic traffic generated is of the highest quality with high conversion rate and big ROI.

The specific website is not generating massive amount of organic traffic (on average 6-8 clicks daily) but because of the fact that brickwork is a very niche (specialised) market, this traffic is of really high quality converting extremely well.

Out of the 188 keywords monitored, 174 have moved up (only 1 down) with 126 of them ranking within the first 3 positions (see image above).

The results shown below (keywords rankings) are not typical (niche market) but still impressive.

How would you feel if your plumbing & heating website increased its organic traffic by 1141.9% in 19 months (July 2015 – January 2017?

In this case study, I’m going to show you exactly how I did that

Let’s jump in.

Brief Background

I will give you as many details as possible without revealing the client’s website (NDA in place).

Here are some quick facts about the company:

  • The client (Plumbing & Heating company) hired me (July 2015) to improve their SEO performance.
  • Business is based in North London covering the whole of South East (London, Essex & Suffolk).
  • Their business is between 1-5 employees.
  • It was a several service page website with ineffective structure / architecture.
  • Some previous SEO work had been done but client was not that happy with the results delivered.
  • A daily budget of £40 was invested in Google AdWords that he wanted to get rid of and focus solely on organic traffic lead generation.

For this client I was allowed to equally use both strategies as the monthly budget was enough to support both of them. In details the tasks performed were:

  • Page load speed optimisation.
  • Fixed several issues found within the technical SEO audit (from 404 pages to structural changes in site’s architecture).
  • Blog set up – 4 new posts published monthly.
  • AMP setup for blog posts.
  • Structured data implementation.
  • Social media accounts setup (Facebook, Twitter), optimisation and frequent updates.
  • SSL certificate installation.

The SEO Results

Before jumping into the results I want to show you how much organic traffic this website generated on July 2015.

As you can see below, only 86 organic clicks in a whole month!!! Things were that bad…

Organic Traffic During the First Month of Our Partnership
Organic Traffic During the First Month of Our Partnership

That was less than 3 organic clicks a day and with a conversion rate of appr. 15%, they were receiving 1 request for quote every 3 days.

But, let’s see how things improved after 12 months of work on the project.

Organic Traffic Growth the First 12 Months of Our Partnership
Organic Traffic Growth the First 12 Months of Our Partnership

486 organic clicks on July 2016. That makes a whopping 465.11% increase in 12 months.

Now the website is generating 15.7 organic sessions per day. With the conversion rate improved to appr. 20%, they receive 3 new requests for quote every single day.

7 more months into the project (January 2017) things are like that:

Organic Traffic Generated on January 2017
Organic Traffic Generated on January 2017

1068 organic visits (34.5 daily sessions) – that makes an overall 1141.9% organic traffic growth in 19 months.

Now the conversion rate reaches 25% allowing them to generate a constant flow of 6-8 enquiries (emails & phone calls ) a day.

Needless to say that one of their initial goals (getting rid of AdWords investment) was also accomplished and now their paid campaign is permanently switched off.

Conclusion

There are basically 2 conclusions you can draw from this growth pattern:

  1. Growing organic search traffic takes time.
  2. If you quit early, you will never see the fruits of your labour.
